Tell us about yourself.

Although I mostly work with textiles and photography, my creative practice reflects my painting background in many ways. I find both these media useful and evocative tools to convey my concerns with memory, feeling and sense of place. I tend to spend a lot of time tinkering, thinking and accumulating, before taking concrete action. Internal life intrigues me.

What can the audience expect of your response to the theme?

In my practice I explore time, memory and a sense of place and I have a particular interest in timeworn materials. These photographic works refer to worn, damaged, everyday objects used by my maternal grandmother, and contemplate the dissonance surrounding personal memory and how it influences the narratives we create around past events and familial bonds.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Curious, introverted, tactile.

ARTIST BIO: After having majored in painting during my undergraduate degree, study for my master’s degree saw my creative processes evolve to encompass photography and textiles. I was a finalist in this year’s North Sydney Art Prize with a photographic installation work that referred to the manual labourers working at the Coal Loader site during its active industrial life. As well as exhibiting regularly I’ve undertaken several artist residencies, most recently at The Coal Loader in Waverton (through North Sydney Council), and in Japan, for which I received grants from The Australia Council for the Arts and The Copyright Agency Career Fund.
