Paul McDonald | Founder and Director | Working Dog Projects
Paul McDonald is a socially engaged educator, artist, and curator whose practice investigates themes of masculinity, mental health, and broader social issues. His work is grounded in research and community-based participatory programs, fostering dialogue and connection through the arts.
Paul is the founder of Contact Sheet (2014), a private arts education organisation supporting photographers through mentorship and skill-building programs, and Working Dog Gallery | Projects (2022), where he has curated over 40 exhibitions featuring more than 350 artists alongside public and community initiatives.
He is represented by The Little Black Gallery (London), and his photographic work has been exhibited and published in over 25 countries. His first book, Study of Self, was published in 2021 and was a finalist in the Australian Book Awards.
Paul holds a Master of Arts in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography (Distinction) from the University of the Arts London. He previously served as Associate Director of Education and Public Programs at the Australian Centre for Photography, and has lectured at institutions including the National Art School, London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, and several universities and councils in Australia.
Paul is a member of the Cultural and Creative Arts Advisory Committee for Willoughby City Council.
