Want to create an engaging body of work, but struggle with ideas and cohesion? How do you edit and present your images for exhibitions or publication? How do you work or approach a curator and gallery in a professional way?
If you ask yourself these questions often, this program is for you. The program will be facilitated by artist and educator Paul McDonald with guest speakers and reviewers photographer AdeY, gallerist and curator Ghislain Pascal, and writer and educator Max Houghton.
You will be set exercises to work through at the end of each session and you will receive feedback on your work throughout the program.

Paul McDonald is a socially engaged educator, artist and curator whose personal practice explores and creates a dialogue around masculinity and mental health. His practice is informed through research and the delivery of community participatory programs.
He was Associate Director, Education and Public Programs at the Australian Centre for Photography, responsible for the subject development and delivery of all photographic programs. He has lectured at the Australian Centre for Photography, National Art School (Australia) , Raffles College of Design and Commerce (Australia), London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, Macleay College of Journalism (Australia), and for various private organisations and councils.
In 2014 he founded Contact Sheet, a private arts education organisation that focuses on mentoring and skills building for photographers both nationally and internationally.
His photographic work has been published internationally and his work exhibited in over 25 countries. He published his first book ‘Study of Self’ in 2021. He is represented by The Little Black Gallery.
Ghislain Pascal is the co-founder and director of The Little Black Gallery, which operates as a photography gallery, publisher, and art consultancy - specialising in contemporary photography. He is the Editor and Curator of BOYS! BOYS! BOYS!
Max Houghton is a writer, editor and curator. She runs the MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. A former co-editor of Foto8 Magazine, her writing has appeared in publications by The Photographers’ Gallery and The Barbican, as well as in the international arts press, including Foam, 1000 Words, Photoworks and Granta. She is co-author, with Fiona Rogers, of Firecrackers: Female Photographers Now (Thames and Hudson 2017).
Please note the sessions will be delivered using zoom, the sessions will not be recorded. Students cannot record the sessions for copyright, privacy and confidentiality reasons of all involved.
